You need a blue card if you:
- provide sport or active recreation activities mainly for children
- conduct activities mainly involving children as part of sport or active recreation
- provide services in a gym or play facility directed mainly towards children
- operate a business that provides sport, active recreation, gym or play facility activities for children.
Employees and volunteers
Sport and active recreation
A blue card is needed for:
- conduct personal training sessions for children
- run martial arts classes for children
- teach dance or ballet classes for children
- referee children’s sporting competitions
- volunteer at junior sporting events
- coach children in sport or recreation activities.
Gym and play facilities
A blue card is needed for:
- supervise children at a play centre
- provided services to children in an amusement arcade
- operate rides mainly used by children in an amusement park or arcade
- executive members of a sport, gym or play facility who operate child-related services
A blue card is not needed if you:
- are a parent volunteering in activities involving your own child, unless you are a restricted person
- work in front of house staff reception roles
- provide only food, beverages or equipment and have no further contact with children
- work in a canteen or bar
- conduct maintenance or equipment safety checks
- clean the facility
- are registered health practitioner providing health services in your professional capacity
- are a child volunteering as a referee.
Other categories
You may fall under another category if the activity is provided through:
- a churches, clubs and associations
- private teaching, coaching or tutoring
- an amusement park or arcade.
Business owners and operators
You need a blue card if business provides:
- sport or active recreation activities directed mainly towards children
- gym facilities directed mainly towards children
- play facilities directed mainly towards children.

A blue card is needed for:

A blue card is not needed if your business:
- provides services only to adults.
- provides only food, beverages or equipment and has no further contact with children
- Provides maintenance or equipment servicing only.
