Blue cards for justice and detention services
You need a blue card if your work takes place in a youth detention facility.
You also need a blue card if you supervise or monitor a child who is subject to a court order under the Youth Justice Act 1992.
You need a blue card if you supervise or monitor a child under:
- a community-based order
- a supervised release order
- any other order made or imposed by a court under that act.
Workers and volunteers
If you work or volunteer in a youth detention centre, you need a blue card.
Examples
You need a blue card if you are:
- an employee of a youth detention centre (except corrective services officers)
- a counsellor or support worker providing support to a child in a youth detention facility
- a legal professional providing support to a young person in a youth detention facility
- an educator providing tuition in a youth detention facility
- a cleaner working in a youth detention facility
- supervising a child on a supervised release order or community-based order.
You do not need a blue card if you are:
- a Queensland Corrective Services carrying out duties under the Corrective Services Act 2006
- a Queensland registered teacher working in an education and training centre
- an AHPRA registered psychologist providing a psychological assessment to a child who has a court order
- an ambulance officers providing emergency medical assistance in a youth detention centre.
Business owners and operators
You need a blue card if you own or operate:
- a youth detention centre
- a business that supervises or monitors children under an order made under the Youth Justice Act 1992.
Examples
You need a blue card as:
- a business operator or owner providing services or activities to children who are subject to court orders but are not in a detention centre.
You do not need a blue card as:
- a business operator or owner providing services to adults who are subject to a community-based order.
