Blue cards for religious representatives
You will need a blue card if you are a religious representative and you:
- provide services mainly for children
- run activities mainly for children.
A religious representatives is someone who represents a religious or spiritual group.
This may include:
- priest
- minister
- chaplain
- monk
- bishop
- reverend
- cardinal
- imam
- rabbi.
Employees and volunteers
You need a blue card if you provide services or run activities for children as a religious representative.
You need a blue card if you:
- teach religion to children
- lead children's worship groups
- run Sunday school
- provide youth ministry
- give spiritual guidance to children
- teach or promote spiritual beliefs to children.
You do not need a blue card if you:
- give a public sermon that is not mainly for children
- do administrative work for a place of worship
- teach religion only to adults
- provide tea, coffee or other hospitality after a religious service.
Business owners and operators
You need a blue card if your organisation or business provides religious or spiritual services mainly for children.
This includes a religious representative whose usual work involves providing services to, or running activities with children.
You need a blue card if you:
- lead a religious group that provides services mainly for children
- run a spiritual group that holds activities for children
- provide spiritual guidance or teaching to children
- run a Sunday school or children’s worship group.
You do not need a blue card if you:
- run a religious or spiritual group that only provides services to adults
- provide services to the public that are not mainly for children
- attend community events that are not specifically for children.
