Blue cards for education programs conducted outside of school

You need a blue card if you:

  • teach students who cannot attend regular school
  • work or volunteer in an approved program outside a school
  • run a business that provides an approved program outside a school.

These programs may help students who:

  • are suspended from school
  • are excluded from school
  • have special school arrangements
  • attend approved flexible learning programs.

This category applies to approved programs under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006.

Employees and volunteers

You need a blue card if you teach school students who cannot attend regular school.

This includes approved programs under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006.

Programs may include:

  • flexible school arrangements
  • education during a suspension
  • education during exclusion
  • other approved programs outside a school.

You need a blue card if you provide:

  • approved flexible school arrangements
  • education during suspension
  • education during exclusion
  • an approved alternative education programs outside a school.

You do not need a blue card if you work for:

  • a state school
  • a non-state school
  • a registered higher education provider
  • a registered training organisation, such as TAFE Queensland or a university.

Business owners and operators

You need a blue card if your business provides approved educational programs for students who cannot attend regular school.

The program must be an approved program under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 .

You need a blue card if you:

  • run an approved alternate education program
  • provide educational services for suspended students
  • provide educational services for excluded students
  • run an approved flexible learning program outside a school.

You do not need a blue card if your business is a:

  • state school
  • non-state school
  • registered higher education provider
  • registered training organisation.
