Blue cards for amusement parks and arcades
You may need a blue card if you provide services to children at an amusement park or arcade.
Whether you need a blue card depends on:
- the services you provide
- the activities you run
- who the services or activities are for.
Examples include:
- children's entertainment and performances
- photography for children
- ride and attraction operations
- children's parties and supervised activities.
Amusement parks
Amusement parks include:
- theme parks
- water parks
- fairs
- festivals
- exhibitions
- carnivals
- other similar attractions.
If you provide entertainment, photography or party services mainly for children, you will generally need a blue card under the entertainment, beauty and photography category.
Examples
You may need a blue card if you:
- work as a costumed character who entertains children
- work as a character chaperone or roving entertainer
- take photographs of children
- provide entertainment or performances for children
- work as a magician, balloon artist or storyteller for children
- host children's activity programs
- supervise or assist children on rides
- work as a lifeguard at children's water attractions.
You do not need a blue card if you:
- provide food and drinks only
- work as a lighting, sound or staging technician
- provide equipment only and have no other contact with children.
Amusement or video arcades
Amusement and video arcades include places where children take part in:
- arcade games
- bowling
- laser tag
- virtual reality games
- similar activities.
If you supervise children's games, parties or activities, you may need a blue card under the sport and active recreation, gyms and play facilities category.
Examples
You may need a blue card if you:
- host children’s birthday parties
- supervise children’s arcade activities
- run children’s competitions or events
- work as a party host or activity coordinator
- deliver children’s holiday activities or supervised programs.
You do not need a blue card if you:
- provide food and drinks only
- work as a lighting, sound or equipment technician
- carry out maintenance or equipment servicing.
Business owners and operators
You need a blue card if your business usually provides services or activities mainly for children at an amusement park or arcade.
Examples
A blue card is needed if you run:
- a children’s amusement attraction
- a children’s entertainment attraction
- children’s birthday party services
- children’s games or supervised activities
- children’s entertainment programs or events.
A blue card is not needed if you operate:
- services only for adults
- food and drink services only
- a maintenance or equipment servicing business.
