Blue cards for churches, clubs and associations
You need a blue card if you work or volunteer for a church, club or association or similar group and:
- provide services mainly for children
- run activities mainly involving children
- make decisions about activities or services for children as an executive committee.
Executive committee members
An executive committee is a group that manages the activities or services for children within a church, club or association.
Executive committee members need a blue card when they provide regulated services to children.
This is because they management and make decisions about services and activities for children.
They need a blue card even if they do not work directly with children.
This may include:
- presidents
- vice-presidents
- secretaries
- treasurers
- committee members responsible for children's activities or programs.
Employees and volunteers
Providing services mainly to children
You need a blue card if you:
- work in a Sunday school
- work in a church youth group
- deliver programs mainly for children.
Running activities mainly for children
You need a blue card if you:
- coach children at a sporting club
- lead Scout, Girl Guides or similar youth activities
- adjudicate children’s sporting competition
- run a surf lifesaver nippers program
- organise events mainly for children.
Making decisions and oversight of children’s activities
You need a blue card if you:
- are an executive committee member who makes decisions about activities or services for children
- approve budgets, policies or programs for children’s activities
- mange a church youth program as part of an executive committee
- are a show society president or executive committee member who makes decisions about children’s competitions, activities or services.
When you do not need a blue card
You do not need a blue card if you:
- work in a canteen, kitchen or tuckshop
- are a cleaner at the facility
- volunteer as a parent in your own child’s activities, unless you are a restricted person
- take part in a mixed-age sporting team
- are a registered health practitioner working in your professional role
- are a child volunteering as a referee.
