How to apply

Kids need to be active.

Joining a sport or active recreation club can be great for them, but sometimes the costs can get in the way.

For families genuinely needing some help with club fees, there are ‘Get Started Vouchers’ available each year in January and July

You can apply for a voucher if you have a Centrelink Health Care Card or Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card or if you receive a link to a voucher from a registered referral agent.

Queensland children aged 5 to 17 are eligible for one voucher per calendar year and can be used at registered clubs. Our club locator can help you find a Get Started club based on activity and location.

The voucher covers the first $150 of membership or participation fees. Check if your club has other costs you’ll need to cover, like uniforms or equipment, as you’ll need to know you can afford them.

To apply you’ll need a computer with internet access (tablets and phones don’t always work) and have created an account. As vouchers are limited and disappear quickly be ready to apply as soon as the round opens by creating an account at any time.

You’ll need an email address and the instructions on our ‘How to apply’ page:

Begin by entering first name, surname and email address.

Then, create a password.

Click to confirm you’re not a robot.

Once you click register you will receive an email to your nominated email address. You need to open this email and click the activation link to finalise the process.

If you don’t get the email, make sure you check your junk mail.

Now you are registered, you are ready to apply for your voucher when the next round opens. Check our website for dates

Here’s how you apply.

When the round is open go to the ‘How to apply’ page to get the direct link. Log in with your email address and password.

Complete all details on each page before clicking next.

Type in your details.

Then the child’s details.

Add the Centrelink Health Care Card or Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card details or referral agent details.

And fill in the questionnaire.

Once you’ve checked your details are all correct click submit.

If you are successful the voucher will appear – it can take a minute, so give the website a minute to respond. You can also check your email for a copy of the voucher.

You can present the voucher to your club when you’re signing up, either printed out or by emailing it. Make sure this is before the expiry date! If you lose the voucher or the email just log back in to your account to get another copy.

Once you have given it to the club it’s up to them to redeem it.

Before you can apply for a voucher you will need to answer the questions below. Answer all questions honestly and follow any instructions provided.

  1. Have you already received a Get Started Voucher for your child/young person this calendar year? You are able to apply for each child under your care in the same calendar year.
  2. Are you the parent/carer/guardian of a child/young person between the ages of 5 and 17 (inclusive)?
  3. Do you or does your child hold a valid Health Care Card/Pensioner Concession Card with the child’s name on it? (If yes, please have this ready at the time of application). Medicare card numbers and Customer Reference Numbers for Centrelink payments (including Family Benefit Part A or B) are not valid. Only valid Centrelink Health Care Cards or Pensioner Concession Cards are accepted. Audits of cardholders will be undertaken by the department to verify validity.
  4. Do you have a QGrants login? (If yes, please ensure you know how to log into your account. To change your password, please follow these instructions (new window).)
  5. Have you previously experienced technical issues applying for a voucher?
  6. Do you have a printer to print your voucher?
  7. If you are successful, a voucher will appear in a PDF format on the final screen of the application. A copy will also be emailed to your registered email address which you can print at a later time (check your junk mail).

    You can access and print your voucher at any time by logging in to QGrants (new window), clicking on the ‘applications’ tab, finding ‘eligible’ applications and clicking ‘view’ in hand side. You can then right click on the PDF and select ‘print’.

  8. If you are successful then a voucher will appear in a PDF format on the final screen of the application and you can print a copy straight away. A copy will also be emailed to your registered email address (check your junk mail).
