Strata Resilience Program

The Strata Resilience Program aims to help bodies corporate in Central and North Queensland improve the resilience of their strata properties against cyclones.

Eligible body corporates can apply for a grant for up to 75% of the cost of improvements.

The $60 million Strata Resilience Program is jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Queensland Government’s Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works.

It follows the delivery of the North Queensland Strata Title Inspection Program (STIP), conducted by James Cook University on behalf of the Queensland Government since 2018. The STIP gave bodies corporate information about the existing resilience of their properties and strategies to improve them.

How the Strata Resilience Program works

The program assists strata properties that are located within 100 kilometres of the coastline from Rockhampton, north to the Torres Strait and west to the Queensland/Northern Territory border.

Eligible bodies corporate can apply for a grant of up to $15,000 per residential tenancy to a maximum of $150,000 (including GST) per body corporate.

The program operates through a co-contribution arrangement. Funding covers 75% of eligible approved resilient works. The approved body corporate must be able to make a minimum 25% co-contribution towards the works. This is paid directly to the contractor.

Funding for the program is limited, and grants will be awarded until the funding capacity is met.

Eligibility criteria

To apply, bodies corporate must meet all these criteria:

  • have participated in the North Queensland Strata Title Inspection Program (STIP)
  • be located within 100 kilometres of the coastline from Rockhampton, north to the Torres Strait and west to the Queensland/Northern Territory border
  • have a single point of contact for the program (i.e. strata contact person) who will seek approval for works in line with the Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997
  • provide evidence of funds to meet co-contribution requirements.

Eligible resilience works

Bodies corporate can apply for funding for eligible resilience works that are identified in their property’s Strata Title Inspection Report, issued by JCU Cyclone Testing Station.

Requested works must be approved by the strata body, in line with the Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997, and approved by the program before any work can start.
