Change or finish child-related work

If you hold a blue card or exemption card, you must tell us when your work changes.

Tell us if you:

  • start child-related work with a new organisation
  • stop child-related work
  • change from volunteer to paid work
  • start a child-related business.

You must follow your rights and obligations.

Start work with a new organisation

Before you start child-related work, you must be linked to your new organisation.

You can:

Work in disability services

If you need both a paid blue card and disability worker screening clearance, you must follow a different application process.

If you have a volunteer blue card

Apply online through Disability Worker Screening for a combined application.

Change from volunteer to paid work

If you move from volunteer work to paid child-related work, you must transfer your volunteer card to a paid card before you start paid work.

After you apply

You can start paid child-related work after you submit your application and pay the fee.

You do not need to wait for your blue card to arrive.

No Card. No Link. No Start

Your employer must link you to their organisation before you start working with children.

Start a child-related business

Use the right form for your situation:

Finishing child-related work

If you stop working with your employer, you need to complete and submit the No longer with organisation (for applicants/card holders) form.

If you are self-employed and stop operating your child-related business, you need to complete and submit the Cease business/self-employed child-related activity form.

Cancel your card

You do not need to cancel your blue card if you stop working with children.
