How to apply for the Supercharged Solar for Renters rebate
A summary of the 2-stage application process is outlined below. Full details can be found in the Applicant Guideline 445.4 KB) . Read the guidelines to check you're eligible before applying.
Applications will be processed in order of lodgement date.
Stage 1 – Conditional approval application
To be eligible for a rebate, you must apply for conditional approval and receive a conditional approval letter from the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) before installing your solar system.
Obtaining conditional approval provides you with a level of certainty that you have met the eligibility criteria before committing to the installation and payment of the solar system.
To be eligible for the rebate, you must purchase your system from a retailer who is a New Energy Tech Approved Seller. You should always seek multiple quotes and do your own research and comparisons before making a significant purchase decision. Find out more about getting started with solar.
The quote must contain:
- the New Energy Tech Approved Sellers’ business name, ABN and address
- the applicant’s name
- the property address
- quote issue date (quotes dated before 12 December 2025 are ineligible)
- the Solar Accreditation Australia number of the system designer
- as a minimum, the details of the panels and inverter that make up the solar system being installed, including:
- brand names and models of the Clean Energy Council approved modules and approved inverters
- system capacity (size) in kilowatts (kW) demonstrating the system is 3 kW or more
- total cost of purchase and installation of the eligible solar system.
Solar Accreditation Australia number
To be eligible for a rebate your system designer’s Solar Accreditation Australia number needs to be current. Your retailer will give you the system designer’s Solar Accreditation Australia number. You can check on the Solar Accreditation Australia website that your system designer’s accreditation status is current.
Note: You’ll need your system designer’s name and Solar Accreditation Australia number for your conditional application. And you’ll need your installer’s name and Solar Accreditation Australia number for your final approval application.
Your tenants must agree to the installation. They are required to complete and sign the tenant acknowledgement and consent form 257.3 KB) .
It is a key part of the program that tenants are fully on board with having a new solar system installed where they are living and understand how the solar system will benefit them.
Apply for conditional approval through the QRIDA application portal.
When you apply for conditional approval, you must provide:
- the quote for the eligible solar system that is dated after the program opening date (see Step 1 for quote requirements)
- proof of ownership of the rental property (e.g. rates notice, contract of sale)
- the signed tenant acknowledgement and consent form (see Step 2)
- an eligible fixed term tenancy agreement (lease) (General tenancy agreement (Form 18a) or Rooming accommodation agreement (Form R18))
- evidence that the tenant is the electricity account holder at the property or evidence that the tenant pays a calculated share (i.e. a percentage) of the electricity cost (e.g. as stated in the lease). A copy of the electricity bill together with a breakdown of how costs are divided among tenants can also serve as proof.
- evidence that the body corporate has approved the proposed installation (if the property is in a body corporate scheme)
- other documents as requested on the application form (refer to the Applicant Guideline 445.4 KB) for more information)

Help logging in
You’ll need to log in with your Australian Government Digital ID, myID (formerly myGovID). This is not the same as your myGov account.
If you are new to the QRIDA portal and don’t have a myID, you can set one up.
If you have an existing QRIDA account, you can choose 'Login with Digital ID for individual' to log in or 'Upgrade existing account' if needed.
QRIDA will assess your application and notify you of the outcome. If your application is approved, you’ll receive a conditional approval letter.
Note: Due to high interest in the program, assessment and response times vary. If you have not had a response within 3 weeks, you may wish to seek an update from QRIDA referencing your application number (for existing applications only).
You will have 150 days from the date of your conditional approval letter to:
- sign a new/updated the tenancy agreement (lease) for the property that includes conditions about the solar system (see Step 5)
- finalise installation, connection and payment of your solar system (see Step 6)
- apply for your rebate payment (see Step 7).
If you cannot complete the requirements above and submit your final approval application within 150 days, please contact QRIDA on 1800 623 946.
You must have your conditional approval letter from QRIDA before you progress to Stage 2.
Changes after your conditional approval
- Your rebate application may be declined at Stage 2 - Final approval stage, if the installation details don’t match what was approved in your conditional approval.
- If you plan to use a different quote or solar system than what was in your conditional approval application, you’ll need to notify QRIDA before making any changes. Your eligibility could be affected if you change the retailer business, module (panel) or inverter details, or the quoted cost.
- If your tenant moves out and you lease the property to a new tenant, your eligibility will not be affected, provided the weekly rent stays the same as stated in the lease submitted at the conditional approval stage, and the new lease continues to meet the program’s eligibility criteria.
Stage 2 – Final approval application
To qualify for the rebate, you must update your current lease with all parties re-signing it or create and sign a new one. This applies even if your current lease has more than 8 months remaining. When submitting your final rebate application, you'll need to provide a copy of the fixed-term lease that meets the following criteria:
- The lease has at least 8 months remaining at the time you submit the final rebate application.
- The weekly rent amount is not higher than in the lease provided with your conditional approval application.
- The lease specifies that a solar system has been or will be installed on the property.
- The lease identifies who is responsible for the system’s maintenance.
Meeting the eligibility requirements for tenancy agreements (lease)
To ensure the lease meets the eligibility requirements, you can choose one of the following options:
- Update Part 3 of the lease – Special terms
- Update Part 3 of the lease to refer to a new annexure to the lease: You can use the example Special Terms Lease Annexure 44.9 KB) or a similar document (for example, one provided by your property manager). The example annexure provided for the program is a generic template and must be tailored to reflect your property. Not all suggested conditions will apply to everyone.
For both options above you must specify that the property has (or will have, if signed before installation) a solar system. Also, clearly outline the rights and obligations of the landlord and tenant (including how electricity generated by the solar system will be charged and shared, and who is responsible for cleaning and maintenance of the system).
Being clear about the solar system when it is installed will avoid disputes later on.
Coordinate the installation with the New Energy Tech Approved Seller you nominated during the conditional approval process.
You or the property manager will need to comply with all relevant entry requirements of your lease and other obligations when installing solar under this rebate.
Your installer will manage the process of connecting your solar system to the electricity grid by working directly with Energex or Ergon. Find out more about connecting solar systems to the grid.
To receive the rebate, you must have already paid the invoice in full. You can meet this requirement if you are making your payment through a finance agreement as long as you can submit documentation to the satisfaction of QRIDA demonstrating the finance contract is in place.
The invoice must include:
- the name of installer
- the date of invoice
- the New Energy Tech Approved Seller business name, ABN and address
- the applicant’s name
- the address of the property
- as a minimum, details of the panels and inverter that make up the solar system being installed, including:
- brand names and models of the Clean Energy Council approved modules and approved inverters
- system capacity (size) in kW
- total cost of purchase and installation of the eligible solar system.
Other components and products (e.g. solar batteries) that are not eligible under the program can be included on the same invoice, however these costs must be itemised separately to the solar system. The rebate amount paid out under the program can match, but not exceed, the cost of purchasing and installing an eligible solar system. Any ineligible items, such as batteries, included in your installation will not qualify for a rebate under this program.
When you submit your rebate application to QRIDA, you must attach:
- the updated or new tenancy agreement (lease) (from Step 5)
- the paid invoice (from Step 6)
- other evidence as required on the form (refer to the Applicant Guideline 445.4 KB) for more information).
Response times can vary depending on the volume of applications being assessed and you may not hear back from QRIDA straight away.
Safety inspections
When applying for the rebate, you will be asked to agree to a free safety inspection of your installation at a time that is convenient for you/your tenants. Installations will be chosen at random for an inspection by the Queensland Government’s appointed energy programs inspectorate.
Important advice for applicants
The Queensland Government does not endorse, approve or warranty the suitability of any suppliers, installers or products. Applicants are responsible for contracting directly with the independent New Energy Tech Approved Sellers for the supply of the solar products. It is recommended that all applicants undertake their own independent enquiries on the suitability of the approved solar suppliers and products.
