Renew your registration
Part of the Renew registration topic
Renew your vehicle, trailer or boat registration in Queensland.
On this page
In short
You can use this service to renew your vehicle, trailer or boat registration in Queensland.
You can renew:
- a current registration (expiring in the next 6 weeks)
- an expired registration, if it has been expired for less than 3 months (90 days).
You can pay online, by BPAY or by setting up direct debit. You cannot pay over the phone.
See How to renew your registration for the full process and other ways to renew.
What you should know
We'll send you a registration renewal notice about 6 weeks before your registration expires. This notice will include your registration details and the cost to renew. If you’ve signed up for e-notices, we'll email your notice to you.
If you’ve set up direct debit for a 1 month term, we'll email your notice to you 4 weeks before the due date.
You can sign up for e-reminders or check a registration status at any time.
We do not send registration labels (stickers) after you renew your registration. Labels were discontinued in 2014 for vehicles and 2019 for boats.
If you do not renew your registration on time
If you do not renew on or before the due date it will expire. You will be charged a late fee to reinstate your registration when you pay.
You cannot legally drive an unregistered vehicle, unless you have an unregistered vehicle permit.
If the vehicle has been unregistered for more than 30 days, you:
- can be fined for driving uninsured
- will not be covered by compulsory third party (CTP) insurance.
Transport inspectors, police officers, and camera technology can check the status of your vehicle registration using your number plate. See Automated number plate recognition cameras.
If you have not received your renewal notice
You are responsible for renewing your registration, even if you don’t receive a notice or reminder.
You can pay online using your registration number and customer reference number (CRN). You can also message us or call 13 74 68 to get the details you need to pay.
If you have signed up for e-notices, you may also be able to get a copy of your notice online, including the BPAY payment details. See Viewing your e-notice and e-reminder history.
If you change your registration details
Changes to your registration term (if applicable), CTP insurer or GST Input Tax Credit Entitlement (ITCE) status will take effect at the start of your new registration period. They are not immediate.

You'll need your Queensland driver licence number or CRN to verify your identity.

Step 2: Set up or manage your direct debit
If you would like to set up direct debit
You must do this before the renewal due date. You can choose from 1, 3, 6 or 12-month registration periods. See Set up direct debit.
Manage your direct debit
If you have already set up direct debit:
- the date for your direct debit payment will be advised on your renewal notice

You can log in to your transport account (My account) to manage your direct debit details. Under My registrations, you can add or remove registrations, update your bank account or card details, and change your registration period (if applicable).
Log in with your Transport and Main Roads (TMR) customer details or your Queensland Digital Identity (QDI).
Step 1: Gather your information
You need the amount, Biller Code (48173 for all registration renewals), and 14-digit BPAY payment reference number (Ref) from your renewal notice.
Your BPAY reference number is unique to your registration and does not change.
The amount you need to pay depends on the registration period you choose and if you pay on time or after the due date.
You cannot use BPAY to:
- pay for your registration from a credit card. If you want to pay by credit card, renew online.
- make partial payments or pay your registration by instalments. If you want to change how often you pay, you can set up direct debit to choose from 1, 3, 6 or 12-month registration periods.
Step 2: Pay for your registration renewal
Access your bank account and follow your bank's instructions to make the BPAY payment.
Complete your payment before 11pm (Queensland time) on the due date to avoid being charged a late fee, as some banking systems use different time zones.

We will not send you a receipt for your payment. In most cases we will not send you a registration certificate. If you need a certificate, see Get a registration certificate.
If your payment is received after the due date, your registration period may be adjusted after the late fee is applied.

In some cases, BPAY payments can be rejected. This can happen if:
- more than one payment has been made
- the registration was not eligible for renewal when you paid
- the registration has been cancelled or has a restriction applied
- an incorrect reference number was used
- the payment amount is incorrect (for example, part payments).
If your BPAY payment is rejected, we'll send you an SMS or email if your contact details are recorded with Transport and Main Roads or post you a letter.
It normally takes 5-10 business days for the funds to be returned. It can take longer if the refund needs to be manually processed.
Your registration will not be renewed until payment has been applied.

We will not send you a receipt for your payment. In most cases, we will not send you a registration certificate. If you need a certificate, see Get a registration certificate.
