The $383 million Safer Children, Safer Communities plan will reform the residential care system, protecting vulnerable children and work to stop children in the child safety system heading down a path of crime. The plan will ensure children who come into contact with the child safety system receive the critical support and intervention they need to turn their lives around.
Support for young people will be delivered by the Regional Reset Program, providing a higher level of care than community-based programs, new Youth Justice Schools for high-risk young people on Youth Justice orders, and the Staying on Track program providing 12 months of support following release from youth detention.
This balanced approach ensures a pathway to rehabilitation while maintaining serious consequences for certain young offenders.
