CPD exemption for exceptional circumstances

If exceptional circumstances have stopped you from completing 2 CPD sessions during the CPD year, you can apply for an exemption.

Exceptional circumstances are extraordinary factors that are both unforeseeable and unavoidable. Examples include:

  • serious illness, health issues or hospitalisation preventing you from working for at least half of the CPD year
  • being on parental or carer’s leave for at least half of the CPD year
  • other special circumstances that have created a significant barrier to working and completing CPD for at least half of the CPD year.

Failing to plan or manage your time is not considered an exceptional circumstance.

How to apply

To apply, you must provide evidence of the exceptional circumstances with your application to renew or restore your licence or registration.

The evidence must show why you couldn't comply with your CPD requirements in that CPD year.

How your application will be assessed

Each application will be considered on its own merits.

When deciding the application, we will consider:

  • what happened and how long it lasted
  • the percentage of the CPD year impacted
  • the portion of the CPD year you actively worked
  • whether CPD options were available that you could have completed
  • whether completing CPD would have been difficult under the circumstances
  • any other relevant factors.

If your application is refused

If we refuse your application, you won't be able to renew or restore your licence or registration.

If you're unhappy with our decision, you can apply to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) for it to be reviewed.
