Surrender or transfer your field agent licence or subagent registration

Surrender a licence or registration

To surrender your field agent licence or subagent registration, you must:

Leaving the industry

You may surrender a licence in order to leave the industry. If you have a trust account, you will also need to close the account.

You will then need to:

Becoming a collection agent

When the Debt Collectors (Field Agents and Collection Agents) Act 2014 came into effect, all existing licensees under the old laws automatically transitioned to hold:

  • field agent licences
  • subagent registrations.

You may no longer need a licence or registration if your work meets the definition of a collection agent. If this is the case, you can surrender your licence and continue to use your trust account.

Don’t surrender your licence or registration unless you’re sure you no longer need it.

Refunds are available for any full years left on your licence.

Transfer a licence or registration

You must not transfer, sell, hire or lend out a licence or registration.

Instead, you may choose to appoint another person to be a substitute licensee. This can help if you're temporarily away for any reason (other than the end of your employment).
