New Foster and Kinship Carer Expression of Interest

Thank you for considering becoming a carer and opening your home to vulnerable children and young people.

It’s a big decision that comes with challenges and rewards.

Filling out this form is the first step to becoming a foster or kinship carer. Please consider how this decision may impact your life, lifestyle and relationships.

Before you begin

You must be over 18 to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to become a foster or kinship carer.

If you are interested in becoming a foster carer, please read the information about becoming a foster carer.

You should talk to other people in your household about your interest in becoming a foster or kinship carer.

It will take around five to ten minutes to complete this form.

Foster carer

Foster carers are approved by Child Safety to provide care in their own homes for children and young people who they are not related to biologically. This care may be for short or long periods of time. Find out more.

Kinship carers are approved by Child Safety to provide care in their own homes for a relative, family member, close friend, or a member of the child or young person's community. Find out more.

After you submit

You will receive an email to confirm we have received your expression of interest form. It will include your reference number, your foster care recruitment service contact details and more information about caring.

Privacy notice

The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety (the department) is collecting your personal information for the purpose of providing information about foster and kinship care, and for foster and kinship carer recruitment and administration purposes. If you do not provide the requested information, we will be unable to process your carer application.

As far as possible, we collect personal information directly from you. However, it may also be necessary for the department to collect information from third parties such as health care providers, employers and your foster or kinship care recruitment and support services. Sometimes people may contact the department and share information about you. The department will take reasonable steps to notify you when this occurs.

This information is collected under the Child Protection Act 1999 and may be shared with an external service contracted to recruit, assess and train foster and kinship carers. It will also be shared with your foster or kinship care recruitment and support service and Queensland Foster and Kinship Care, to enable them to support you as a carer.

The department may also use your personal information for evaluation, business improvement and reporting purposes and your contact information may be provided to market research professionals for these purposes. The evaluation outcomes or research findings are provided to the department and will not contain any identifying information about you.

Your information will not be disclosed overseas.

The department is committed to handling your personal information in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 and the Queensland Privacy Principles (QPPs). • how you can access your personal information held by the department
• how you can seek correction of your personal information if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading, and
