Far North Queensland’s tourism industry also felt the effects of TC Jasper and record rainfall in December.

Joint Queensland and Australian Government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) have resulted in a range of recovery activities delivered by Tourism and Events Queensland.

Airfare promotions with Qantas and Jetstar spruiked sale fares from most capital cities and intrastate routes for travel from mid-January to the end of March 2024.

A partnership with Webjet offered $100 discounts on fares to Cairns and sold out in three days, driving a 516 per cent surge compared to the week before.

A sale promotion with Virgin Australia saw 39 per cent of the fares purchased for the immediate travel period of March.

In total, more than 32,000 seats have been sold through airline partnerships.

Partnership marketing activities with My Queensland, Qantas Hotels and Holidays and Luxury Escapes have sold holiday packages.

A 'Tropical Dollars' incentive campaign launched initially for locals, offering $100 off tourism experiences, has now been extended nationally.

The incentive is complemented by a major marketing campaign launched in February promoting 'tropical holiday season', to drive visitors in the immediate short-term to enjoy the cascading waterfalls, thriving rainforests and beauty of the reef at this time of year.
