Completion
When you, the employer and the apprentice or trainee agree that all competencies outlined in the training plan have been achieved, the following must take place:
- When the employer and apprentice or trainee agree that the apprenticeship or traineeship can be completed, they will sign a completion agreement and forward it to you within a timely manner.
You will need to confirm:- that all training has been completed
- the actual completion date of the apprenticeship or traineeship.
- Issue the apprentice or trainee with a qualification and list of competencies achieved.
- Within 14 days of issuing the qualification, you must send written advice of this event to the Department of Education, Training and Employment; and the employer. You can use the completion agreement form you received previously for this purpose.
- We will then issue a certificate of completion to the apprentice or trainee and advise the employer in writing that the certificate has been issued.

Cancelling the training contract
As the training contract is legally binding, it can only be cancelled in certain circumstances and in line with the Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000 (Qld) (PDF, 1.3MB).
A training contract may be cancelled if at least one of the below apply:
- it is during probation
- all parties agree to cancel
- there is an inability to perform obligations under the contract.
The following information sheets explain in detail:
- Cancellation—mutual agreement
- Cancellation—inability to fulfil the obligations of the training contract.
Contact Apprenticeships Info on 1800 210 210 or email apprenticeshipsinfo@qld.gov.au if:
- you believe it is likely a training contract may be cancelled
- you know that a training contract has been cancelled without following the required process.
Changing the supervising registered training organisation
The employer and the apprentice or trainee may agree they want to change their supervising registered training organisation (SRTO).
In this circumstance, you have certain responsibilities:
- If the agreement with you is ending, you must provide a statement of attainment confirming the training that has been completed under the training plan (on or before the day the agreement ends).
- If you agree to become the replacement SRTO, you must develop a new training plan with the apprentice or trainee and their employer. You and the employer also need to complete a 'change of training organisation' form.
Penalties may apply if you do not meet your responsibilities.
