Manage the completion process (for SRTOs)

As the supervising registered training organisation (SRTO), you play a key role in completing your apprentice's or trainee's training contract.

Your responsibilities

During the completion process you are responsible for:

  1. issuing the qualification
  2. signing and forwarding on the completion agreement form
  3. notifying us, at Apprenticeships Info, if you are having trouble getting the completion agreement signed (even though training has been completed).

How the completion process works

Although training contracts have nominated end dates, these only serve as a guideline because apprenticeships and traineeships are competency-based, not time-based.

The formal completion process begins once your apprentice or trainee:

  • has successfully achieved all units of competency in their training plan
  • is competent in the workplace to industry standards
  • and
  • has worked the required hours (only applies to school-based apprentices and trainees).

When an apprentice or trainee finishes their training, they will receive:

  1. a qualification certificate from you
  2. a completion certificate from us.

Resolve completion agreement issues

When completion agreements aren't signed off easily by both parties, this causes delays and frustrations. When this happens, either party should contact you first. Follow these steps to resolve this situation:

  1. If you've received a completion agreement (by one party), are satisfied that the apprentice or trainee should be issued a qualification certificate and have tried all efforts to get the other party's signature, than notify us using Form ATF-033.
  1. We will write to all parties immediately, notifying them about our intention to complete the apprenticeship or traineeship. We will also ask all parties for a response.
  2. We will decide whether to complete the apprenticeship or traineeship and advice all parties and you, the SRTO, in writing. If we decide to complete, we will issue a completion certificate to the apprentice or trainee.
