In short

There is support available for victims of different or non-violent crimes in Queensland.

These crimes include property crime, work-related crime and motor vehicle crimes. Some of these crimes are handled by insurers.

If you were threatened or injured during the crime you may be eligible for financial assistance.

Non-violent property crimes

If you have experienced a non-violent property crime such as:

• car theft
• house break
• vandalism

The Queensland government has funded ConnectCare to support and provide:

• individualised, trauma-informed, therapeutic counselling
• psychological first aid
• information, advice and referrals.

The Office of the Victims’ Commissioner has resources for victims of property crime, including a pathway tool.

If you were threatened or injured during the crime, you may be eligible for financial assistance.

Work-related violence

If you have experienced violence at work (or travelling to or from work) you need to contact your workers compensation provider.

Financial assistance may be available through WorkCover Queensland or another workers compensation provider.

You must finalise any workers' compensation claim before applying for financial assistance through Victim Assist Queensland.

Motor vehicle crashes

You may be able to get compensation if you have been injured by a motor vehicle crash that wasn’t your fault (or you were only partly responsible for).

You can make a claim with the compulsory third party (CTP) insurer of the vehicle that caused the crash or a nominal defendant claim.
