How your rent is calculated
If you live in social housing managed by the Department of Housing and Public Works, in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Local Government Area, you pay approximately 25% of your household’s total assessable income or the maximum rent for the property, whichever is less.
Housing staff will work with you to calculate your rent.
Maximum rent
The maximum rent is based on the rent charged for other social housing properties that we manage.
When calculating the maximum rent, we consider the number of bedrooms and the condition of the property.
Number of bedrooms
The weekly maximum rent amounts in social housing properties based on bedrooms are:
- 1 bedroom - $90
- 2 bedrooms - $105
- 3 bedrooms - $120
- 4 bedrooms - $150
- 5 bedrooms - $160
- 6 bedrooms - $165
- 7 bedrooms - $180
- 8 bedrooms - $190
- 9 bedrooms - $195.
