Interstate apprentices and trainees

Apprentices and trainees living outside Queensland

If your workplace is in Queensland, you can undertake a Queensland-based apprenticeship or traineeship, regardless of where you live.

For example, if you live in northern NSW but commute to work across the border in Queensland.

Apprentices and trainees working temporarily outside Queensland

If you work temporarily outside Queensland with your Queensland-based employer, you don't need to change your training contract. You can continue as normal.

Apprentices and trainees moving to Queensland

To continue your apprenticeship or traineeship in Queensland and get credit for the work (time served) and training you've already done elsewhere, there are different processes, depending on which state you started in.

|

If you started your apprenticeship or traineeship in New South Wales or Victoria, you'll need to:

  1. Get a request for extract of service form from your Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) provider.
  2. Hand this completed form back to your AASN provider, who will pass this on to us.

If you started your apprenticeship or traineeship in any other states or territories, you'll need to:

  1. Get an extract of service from your old state training authority (e.g. in Queensland this is the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training).
  2. Get a statement of attainment from your old training organisation (e.g.college or TAFE).
  3. Give this information to your AASN provider, who will pass this on to us.

Once you have proof of credit for your time already served and training completed, you'll then need to:

  1. sign a training contract with the AASN provider
  2. agree on a training plan with your new employer and training organisation
  3. make sure you get paid the correct wages and entitlements.

Apprentices and trainees moving away from Queensland

If you started your apprenticeship or traineeship in Queensland, and want to continue it interstate, you can apply for an extract of service from us, which documents the time you have already served in the apprenticeship or traineeship.

You will also need a statement of attainment from your training organisation listing the competencies you have completed.
