Role of the Queensland Training Ombudsman

Role

The Queensland Training Ombudsman is separate from the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training.

It is deliberately independent, so it can keep checks and balances on us and other organisations involved in vocational education and training, including:

  • registered training organisations (RTOs)
  • Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) providers
  • schools
  • employers.

Responsibilities

Complaints

The Queensland Training Ombudsman directly supports apprentices, trainees, students, employers and parents/guardians to:

  • resolve training issues
  • investigate formal complaints against decisions made by us.

Make a complaint to the Queensland Training Ombudsman.

Completing a school-based traineeship without enough paid hours

You can make a special business case with the Queensland Training Ombudsman if you:

  • are a school-based trainee
  • are nearing the end of Year 12
  • have finished your training
  • and
  • can't get enough paid hours to meet the minimum paid work requirement.

Once you've submitted your business case, the Queensland Training Ombudsman will notify us about their recommendation.
