Getting ready to onboard

Have your identity documents ready

To onboard you will need to create a Queensland Digital Identity. To do this, you will need your Queensland-issued:

and 1 of the following:

  • Australian passport
  • Australian birth certificate
  • Australian visa
  • Australian citizenship certificate or citizenship by descent
  • Evidence of Immigration ImmiCard.

All documents must be current or expired, suspended or cancelled less than 2 years.

If the name on your documents do not match you will also need to provide a:

  • marriage certificate
    or
  • name change certificate

If you need help with providing the correct documents, contact us to discuss your options.

Update your phone and turn on security settings

Your device must run the latest iOS or Android operating system, or one of the 2 previous versions.

Make sure your phone security (PIN, FaceID, FingerprintID) is turned on. If it is off, your credentials will not download to your device.

Beta versions of operating systems are not supported.

Onboarding

Do I 'Sign-up' or 'Login'?

After you select ‘GET STARTED’, you will be asked to ‘Sign-up’ or ‘Login’ to the Queensland Digital Identity (QDI).

Select ‘Login’ if you already have a QDI.

You will already have QDI if you have:

  • ever signed up for the Digital Licence app before, on any device. This includes if you started the sign-up process but did not finish.

    or
  • created a Queensland Digital Identity to access Queensland Government online services (for example to lodge a Rental Bond application).

Enter your QDI email address and password to login.

You’ll need to strengthen your QDI by verifying additional document/s if:

  • your QDI only has an email and password
  • you have only verified one document
  • you haven’t verified your Queensland issued driver licence, photo ID card or marine licence
  • your QDI was set up using a Medicare card.

This is because of the Digital Licence app identity document requirements.

Select ‘Sign-up’ if you do not have a QDI.

You will go through the process of creating and strengthening your QDI.

Finish app set up

What to do once your QDI is ready:

  • Set a 6-digit PIN. You can reset your PIN at any time in the app settings.
  • Add Face ID/Touch ID or Fingerprint access (optional). You can change it anytime in the app’s settings.

Your credentials will now be downloaded - you will see them in the app’s Home screen.

Adding credentials to the app

Some credentials will appear automatically. You will need to add other Queensland Government credentials.

Getting started with a new phone

If you have previously onboarded with the Digital Licence app and get a new phone:

  • download the app
  • select Login
  • enter your QDI email and password

All your credentials will appear, including those you have previously added manually.

For security reasons, you cannot transfer the app between devices (for example, via a device backup).

If you are logging into the app for the first time on a new iPhone, you may encounter the following issue:

"Unable to login with FaceID. Please enter your PIN to continue." Then, "Something went wrong. An error has occurred. Please try again."

Steps to resolve this error:

  1. Delete the app from your phone
  2. Clear your cache
  3. Reinstall the app
  4. Login.

Remove credentials from your old phone

If you still have access to your old phone:

  1. Open the app
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Select Securely Reset the app

This will remove your credentials and personal information from the device.

If you don’t have access to your old phone, contact us and we can remove it.

The Digital Licence can be used on a maximum of 5 devices. If you have used it on 5 devices, you will need to remove it from 1 of them before you can add it to a new one. If you no longer have access to any of the devices, contact us.
