How to set up your Queensland Digital Identity

Learn how to set up your Queensland Digital Identity and use it prove who you are for many Queensland Government online services.

Before you start

To be prepared, you will need:

  • An email address – that has not been used for another Queensland Digital Identity
    • Don’t use shared emails, work emails, or any email you may not have access to in the future.
  • your identity documents.

Set up your Queensland Digital Identity

Step 1: Go to the online service you want to access

  • You can use a Queensland Digital Identity to access Queensland Government online services, such as applying for a Seniors Card, or lodging a rental bond.
  • Choose Queensland Digital Identity when you are asked to prove your identity.

Step 2: Create your Queensland Digital Identity

  • Enter your email address
  • Create a password
  • Read and accept the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Notice
  • Set up multifactor authentication
    • add an extra layer of security using SMS, or an authenticator app like Google Authenticator.

How to create your Queensland Digital Identity.

You can use a Queensland Digital Identity, known as a QDI, to access Queensland Government online services.

Your QDI helps us know that it is you when you are online with us.

To create your QDI you will need some documents. Like your birth certificate, passport and driver licence.

When you next use a Queensland Government Online service, at the sign up to QDI page, add your email address and create a password.

Your password must be strong.

It needs to be 8 characters. With a mix of small and big letters, numbers and symbols.

Next, accept the terms and conditions.

To confirm your email address, we’ll email you a validation code.

Enter that code into the digital identity validation code field.

Now, set up multi-factor authentication to keep your account safe.

Choose your preferred authentication option and follow the instructions.

To verify your identity, you need to provide 2 documents.

Enter your name and details exactly as they appear on your documents.

If your names on the documents are not the same, you will need to provide a name change document.

Finally, confirm your legal name. Pick your current legal name from the list.

Next time, when asked for your QDI, select log in, and use the email address and password from today.

You are now set up with a QDI and have secure access to Queensland Government online services anywhere, anytime.

Step 3: Strengthen your Queensland Digital Identity

Some services require you to have a stronger digital identity, so you may be asked to strengthen your Queensland Digital Identity with information from your government issued personal documents. You only need to strengthen your digital identity once. The documents you use to verify will be linked to your digital identity and can’t be linked to another Queensland Digital Identity.

You need to provide one document from each list which will be digitally verified.

First document list
  • Driver licence issued from any Australian state
  • Queensland marine licence
  • Queensland photo identification card / adult proof of age card
  • Australian passport
  • Immigration card
  • Australian Visa
Second document list
  • Any other document from the first document list. If you used your Queensland driver licence, marine licence or photo identification card for your first document, you won’t be able to use another one of these for your second document.
  • Certificate of descent
  • Australian citizenship certificate
  • Australian birth certificate
  • Medicare card

If your name has changed and don’t match on your documents, you’ll need to provide evidence of your name change, using a name change certificate or marriage certificate. Contact us if you don’t have these documents.

Step 4: Confirm your legal name

We will confirm your legal name to access Queensland Government online services.

You’ll select your legal name from the documents you provided in Step 3.
