Breakthrough for Families

As part of our Action on Ice Strategy, we are launching a new program ‘Breakthrough for Families’.

Breakthrough for Families will help families and significant others of individuals affected by ice and other drugs–in particular families with children–to obtain information, develop support strategies and connect to treatment services.

The program will provide families and the broader community affected by ice and other drugs access to free, accessible information, support and strategies to help themselves and others.

The voluntary program will be delivered in community settings and there will be a strong focus on helping people who may not have easy access to support.

The program will be delivered by non-government alcohol and drug treatment organisations across the following Queensland areas:

  • Darling Downs
  • West Moreton
  • Brisbane
  • Wide Bay
  • Townsville
  • Sunshine Coast
  • South West Queensland
  • Mackay
  • Cairns
  • Cape York.

Queensland Health will support Breakthrough for Families service providers with state-wide program resources, training and support for workers.

The Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council will contextualise the program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and will support direct delivery in a number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Delivery of Breakthrough for Families to the Queensland public is expected to commence in July 2018.

This page will be updated as soon as the procurement process for Breakthrough for Families service providers is complete.
