Seniors Week – it’s on for young and old
Seniors Week is a great opportunity to recognise older people for their valuable contributions to our communities. Queenslanders are encouraged to support local events being held across the state to celebrate Seniors Week, from 16–24 August 2014.
Pets in Aged Care Grants Program – now available
Animal Welfare League Australia is offering 10 small grants totalling $10,000 to assist aged care facilities and residents make suitable arrangements to allow their pets to live with them. Applications close 5 September 2014.
Elder abuse—anyone can make the call
Common forms of elder abuse include emotional, financial and physical abuse, and neglect. If you are concerned someone you know is experiencing elder abuse, make the call to the Elder Abuse Helpline for confidential advice.
2013–14 Business Discount Directory now available
The 2013–14 Business Discount Directory for Seniors and Carers is out now. Pick up a copy from your local library, government office or seniors or carers organisation. Search online to find your nearest directory pick-up point.
Council rates subsidy—apply now
Eligible pensioners can receive a subsidy of 20 per cent (up to a maximum amount of $200 each year) of the gross rates and charges levied by local councils.
