Navigation

When using the Queensland Government website (http://www.qld.gov.au) there are a number of ways that users can move around the site to access information and services.

The diagram below highlights the navigation options available on the qld.gov.au homepage.

Queensland Government logo

All Queensland Government websites, that have implemented the consistent user experience standard will display the Queensland Government logo in the top left hand corner on their websites. This logo is a link to the Queensland Government home page (www.qld.gov.au).

Utility menu and search navigation facility

At the top right hand corner of each page you will find the utility menu and search navigation facility.

From here you can navigate to:

  • Contact us - how to contact the Queensland Government.
  • Help - tips on using this website.
  • Search facility - enter keywords in the text box and click the "Search" button to search for information on this website.

Site navigation

The site navigation (menu) is located directly under the horizontal image banner on each page. This menu contains link to the six major sections of qld.gov.au including;

Section navigation

Section navigation (menu) is used on all secondary pages on qld.gov.au and provide users with information specific to a section of our site. Section navigation (menu) will appear in the left-hand column of a each secondary page. Information on the section navigation (menu) can be opened or closed by selecting the [+] or [-] symbols to the left of each menu item, where available.

My community

Located only on the qld.gov.au homepage, the "My community" panel allows users to access information specific to a particular town or region. This information includes local weather, regional media releases and other links to local Queensland government services and information.

Footer

The footer menu contains the Queensland Government legal and privacy notices, information on the access keys utilised through this site and information on multi-lingual services (if required).

Access keys

Access keys have been included to assist users with disabilities to access certain information using only the keyboard. Find out what access keys are used on this site.

Skip links

If you are using an assistive technology such as a screen reader to browse this site, skip links are provided at the beginning of the page to allow you to move quickly to key information such as the primary navigation, secondary navigation or content. The links are not visible in a graphical browser.

Logical tab order

The Queensland Government website (qld.gov.au) has a logical tab order for navigating without a mouse. Use the tab key on your keyboard to move to the next link or field. Use shift-tab to move backwards, and the enter key to follow links and submit forms. Most browsers support these functions.
