Rescue services in Queensland

Volunteer Marine Rescue
Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) is made up of several organisations working to make our waterways safer. These organisations include:
- Marine Rescue Association Queensland
- Australian Volunteer Coast Guard
- Surf Life Saving Queensland
- Royal Life Saving Society Australia.
VMR is also part of the National Search and Rescue Plan.
Helicopter and emergency rescue
The Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ) helicopter rescue is used for rescue and recovery operations, including:
- search and rescue
- air evacuation of critically ill people
- patient transfers and emergency medical care
- evacuation of people during disasters
- delivery of supplies to disaster-affected communities
- fire fighting
- oil spill containment
- police support.
The EMQ Helicopter Rescue operates from bases in Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns.
