Helicopter rescue

Volunteer Marine Rescue

Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) is made up of several organisations working to make our waterways safer. These organisations include:

VMR is also part of the National Search and Rescue Plan.

Helicopter and emergency rescue

The Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ) helicopter rescue is used for rescue and recovery operations, including:

  • search and rescue
  • air evacuation of critically ill people
  • patient transfers and emergency medical care
  • evacuation of people during disasters
  • delivery of supplies to disaster-affected communities
  • fire fighting
  • oil spill containment
  • police support.

The EMQ Helicopter Rescue operates from bases in Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns.
