Marine rescue

The Volunteer Marine Rescue Association Queensland (VMRAQ) provides marine search and rescue services.

VMRAQ also develop policies and standards for marine search and rescue, including:

  • standards for training
  • funding arrangements
  • operational procedures
  • accreditation
  • construction and fit out specification for marine rescue vessels.

VMRAQ has 25 squadrons, located from Point Danger, in the south of the state, to the remote Gulf of Carpentaria and Torres Strait region.

These squadrons offer a trip-planning service for recreational mariners to report their:

  • call sign or vessel name
  • departure point and time
  • intended destination
  • trip intention
  • number of people on board
  • expected time of return.
