Costs
Training
The cost of training (and who pays for it) depends on the type of apprenticeship or traineeship you are doing.
If there is no government funding available, your employer will often pay for all or part of your training.
However, some supervising registered training organisations (SRTOs) are registered as preferred suppliers and are funded by the government to provide training to apprentices and trainees at a reduced cost. This is known as User Choice funding.
To find out if User Choice funding is available for your apprenticeship or traineeship:
- search the Queensland Training Information Service for your chosen apprenticeship or traineeship
- call Apprenticeships Info on 1800 210 210.
If you have already chosen an SRTO, they can advise you about the cost of your training.
Training costs for existing workers
Existing workers may also be eligible to receive funded training. You will need to discuss this with your SRTO or call Apprenticeships Info on 1800 210 210.
Existing workers are employees who have worked continuously for an employer:
- full-time for more than 3 months
or
- part-time or casual for more than 12 months immediately before entering certain apprenticeships or traineeships.
Other costs
You may also need to pay for:
- uniforms and equipment
- textbooks and other study materials
- parking or transport costs (to attend work or training)
- accommodation (if you need to travel to attend training).
Financial help is available to help cover some of these costs if you meet the eligibility criteria.
