Companion Card
A Companion Card makes going to events like football games, festivals, concerts and movies more affordable for people with a disability who rely on help from someone else most (or all) of the time.
Having a Companion Card means you receive 2 tickets for the price of 1 when attending events or activities at participating venues. Simply visit a participating business, show your card when you buy your ticket and you will receive a second ‘companion' ticket, at no charge, for your companion or carer. This ticket is also exempt from booking fees and the cost of the ticket is covered by the business.
The Companion Card is valid on public transport too.
The card is issued in the name of the person with the disability and is valid for 5 years. It gives cardholders freedom to go to different places with different people. The cardholder's companion may be a partner, family member, friend, volunteer or paid carer assistant.
Am I eligible for a Companion Card?
To be eligible, all 4 criteria below must apply. You must:
- be an Australian resident, living in Queensland
- have a disability
- be unable to participate at most community venues or activities without attendant care support because of your disability
- need, or be likely to need, lifelong attendant care support.
The Companion Card is neither income nor asset tested.
The Companion Card is not for people:
- with a disability who want a social companion when out and about
- with a temporary, non-permanent disability
-
who access most activities and venues on their own but need some help at some places.
Where can I use the Companion Card?
The Companion Card is accepted at a range of venues and activities across Queensland—from regional shows and the Brisbane Ekka to sporting venues, tourist attractions, theatres and cinemas.
You can also use your Companion Card on all TransLink services in south-east Queensland, all qconnect urban bus and ferry services throughout regional Queensland and Queensland Traveltrain holidays.
The Companion Card is also recognised throughout Australia. Find out about interstate programs and participating businesses in other states and territories on the National Companion Card website.
