Creative Horizons

Creative Horizons is more than a program—it’s an invitation to dream big. This initiative encourages Mackay’s young creatives (12–25 years) to explore what their future could hold by imagining their own creative horizons. Through hands-on workshops and a collaborative exhibition, participants will gain the skills, confidence, and connections to turn ideas into reality. It’s about discovering possibilities, shaping pathways, and celebrating creativity in all its forms.

Photography Workshop - Oakey

Unlock your creativity and learn how to capture the world through your own lens!

This hands-on 3‑hour photography workshop is designed for young people aged 12–25 who want to level up their photo‑taking skills. Across the session, you’ll explore:

📸 How to take a great photo – what actually makes an image stand out
🔧 Camera settings – understanding exposure, focus, shutter speed, ISO, and more (in simple, practical ways!)
🎯 Framing & composition – using angles, depth, and visual storytelling to make your photos pop
🌟 Practical tips & guided practice – get hands-on experience with support from an experienced photographer

By the end, you’ll feel confident using your camera, experimenting with creative techniques, and capturing shots you’re proud to share. Perfect for beginners, aspiring content creators, or anyone who loves expressing themselves visually.

You are required to bring your own camera or device to participate in the workshop. Selected photos will then be part of the Photos through Your Eyes exhibition at the Rosalie Art Gallery.

Get ready to light up the night at the Queensland Youth Week Glow Party in Pittsworth!

The lights will be turned down and the neon turned up for an evening packed with vibrant colours, great music, and non-stop fun. Come dressed in the brightest outfits, glow gear, and anything that shines, because this night is all about standing out and lighting up the dance floor!

An epic party featuring pizza, slushies, a photobooth, and heaps of good vibes. Grab friends, bring the best glow, and get ready for an unforgettable night!

This event is for high school-aged young people only. Student identification must be shown on entry. Registration is required, with limited spaces available.

Youth Summit 2026

The Queensland Family and Child Commission's third annual Youth Summit is taking place in Brisbane on Friday 10 April 2026. The Youth Summit is an opportunity for Queensland children and young people, aged 25 and under, to share their lived experiences and ideas for positive change directly to government and sector leaders to improve outcomes for children, young people and their families. Speakers from our last two Summits have created opportunities to advocate for systems change across a range of sectors including health, education, disability, domestic and family violence, child protection, and more, following their Summit presentations. They’re continuing to have an impact and shape the way sector professionals think about youth participation, advocacy and accountability. Afrobeat Disco & BBQ

Afrobeats Disco & BBQ is the ultimate hangout for young people aged 13–17 — a high-energy space to vibe, connect, and express yourself! Get ready for great music with a live DJ, dancing, games, and BBQ in a fun and welcoming environment designed just for you.

This event is all about bringing young people together to build friendships, try new activities, and feel confident being themselves in a safe, inclusive, and culturally proud space. It’s your chance to engage with the organisation, meet new people, and be part of something positive and empowering.

Families are also invited to connect with the organisation, celebrate African music, dance, and culture, and be part of a vibrant community atmosphere that promotes wellbeing, creativity, and positive youth experiences.

This is a free event for youth 13-17 years, gold coin donation for BBQ, and other activities will be available at the venue. Registering is helpful to cater for numbers but drop-ins are welcome.

Fraser Coast Busking - regional music activation

The streets are about to come alive! Fraser Coast Regional Council is supporting an incredible line-up of young local talent ready to bring the vibes. From solo artists to small crews, these emerging musos will be taking it streetside at designated locations throughout Youth Week, sharing their sound, their energy and their main-character moments with the community. Now it’s over to you!Come along, stop for a listen, and show your support for Fraser Coast’s young performers as they step into the spotlight. Your cheers, claps and good vibes make all the difference. Let’s back local talent and celebrate youth creativity across the region.

Dungeons & Dragons at the Empire

This Queensland Youth Week come along to the Empire Church Theatre for a fantastical day!

Dungeons and Dragons is a popular tabletop role playing fantasy game. Come join in on a learn to play session. Throughout the day, there are several more casual activities such as mini painting and craft.

Ages 12-25. Each session will have 4-6 people. Our volunteer dungeon masters facilitators will guide you through this process and your adventure.

This activity is free, however due to venue capacity, bookings are required.

Youth Week: Paper in Motion with Penny Bennett

Inspired by the oozing life forms from Penny's exhibition Bio morphism, participants will learn to create a kinetic sculpture using paper and the process of Automata. Automata is a playful and inventive way to create cams, cranks, levers, gears and linkages that turn movement into actions.

Participants will learn how to create all of these elements and how to use them to make their sculpture come alive with movement. This workshop is part of Queensland Youth Week - a celebration of young people and their incredible achievements, ideas, talents and contributions to our community.

No prior experience is needed and all materials are provided. Ages 12 - 21 years Cost: $15 includes tuition and all materials Where: Bundaberg School of Arts, 184 Bourbong Street When: Saturday 11 April | 10 am - 12 pm

Sunset Social and Movie Night

Sunset Social and Movie Night is a chilled-out youth picnic on the Empire Theatre lawn, creating the perfect space to relax, connect and just be yourself. From 3pm, enjoy music, free food, bean bags, picnic rugs and creative art activities in a laid-back outdoor setting.

Whether you feel like hanging out with friends, getting creative, or simply soaking up the sunset vibes, this is a place where you can just be you. As the sun sets, settle in for an outdoor movie experience with The Wild Robot screening from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

This QLD Youth Week event is for young people aged 12 to 25 and is delivered by the Toowoomba Regional Youth Leaders in partnership with Headspace Toowoomba, with support from Rosies - Friends of the Street Toowoomba.

A youth-focused community event delivered in collaboration with a wide range of local youth services, community organisations, sporting groups and food vendors. This free, inclusive event offers sports come & try, circus workshop, arts & crafts, live music, lawn games and Colour Run.
