Youth Week grants

Young Queenslanders aged 12 to 25 were invited to apply for grant funding of up to $10,000 (including GST) to design and deliver impactful community events during Queensland Youth Week (11–19 April 2026).

Applications closed on 22 February 2026.

The Queensland Government Office for Youth supported the grants in partnership with the Queensland Mental Health Commission.

These events offered young people a diverse range of activities, including sports, arts and community festivals.

Applicants had the option to choose from focus areas either under the:

This free community celebration included a youth showcase stage (music, dance, speeches), creative and sport-based activities, interactive activities, jumping castles, and a relaxed community expo of youth and wellbeing supports.

Make Space: Our Stories, Our Strength

A series of events were delivered across Queensland and online, designed for LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy young people, who are navigating identity, safety and a sense of belonging. Activities varied across sites, some including a Make Space – Our Stories, Our Strength collective wall, onto which young people anonymously contributed reflections, drawings and messages.

Art for the Heart

This youth mental wellbeing and creative expression initiative consisted of two workshops, each designed to provide a safe, structured space for young people to build everyday mental fitness skills through creativity. Sessions concluded with a collaborative installation, where individual artworks were assembled into a unified display.

Beach Beats – Coastal Youth Festival

Beach Beats – Coastal Youth Festival was a youth-led festival celebrating youth creativity through live music, art and creative market stalls. Key youth and community service stakeholders attended, providing accessible information and support relating to mental health, wellbeing, homelessness, and drug and alcohol services.

North Qld (Yeppoon)

Youth Caring for Country, Caring for Community at the Capricorn Caves

This hands-on environmental event held in the Capricorn Caves landscape built young people’s knowledge about biodiversity, conservation and sustainable land management. Guided by environmental educators and community mentors, young people also engaged in leadership activities, First Nations cultural knowledge sharing, and explored career pathways.

Youth Week Activities

This five-day festival included a variety of activities including an Outback Style Lab, Game Makers Studio, Geo Explorers, Jurassic Journey Tour, Boat Building, Culture and Country Walk, a movie night, plus much more.

YWAM Precinct 3rd Birthday

The YWAM Precinct 3rd birthday was a free celebration hosted at the YWAM Precinct. The event included free high ropes sessions, complimentary drinks from the YWAM cafe, interactive games such as laser tag, jumping castle and indoor sports tournaments, and live music.

Amplify Youth - Video Voices Lab

Amplify Youth — Video Voices Lab was a free, youth-led studio module that taught practical digital storytelling skills, including idea development, scripting, filming, editing and captioning. Participants produced short, captioned video essays, prototyped a simple YouTube channel and took part in a community screening.

South East Qld (Brisbane)

Bridging Generations: Youth-Led Multicultural Performances for Aged Care

Young performers visited multiple aged care facilities in Brisbane, bringing bilingual English–Mandarin musical and dance performances to elderly members of the community.

Building Youth Communities Through Music and Skateboarding

Two all-ages music and skateboarding community events were held in Brisbane skate parks, featuring live band performances and skateboarding demonstrations by young local skaters and mentors. These events promoted youth connection as a protective factor against social isolation, mental ill health, and substance use, and promoted key community support organisations and services including Kids Helpline.

CATS Youth Edition - Holiday Workshop and Performances

Young people auditioned to participate in multiple days of musical theatre workshops, culminating in performances of the musical "Cats". The key production team members were youth-mentored by experienced professionals in each key area.

Cherbourg YAG Leadership Camp

This three-day camp nurtured 21 young First Nations leaders from Cherbourg, who engaged in activities to develop teamwork, understand individual leadership styles, develop effective communication and build strong peer relationships.

Circus in the Park

At Circus in the Park in the Palm Beach Parklands, the HAPY Youth Troupe provided dazzling aerial arts and acrobatics performances to the public. Young members of the public also had the opportunity to participate in free circus and aerial arts workshops.

Connecting on Concrete

Connecting on Concrete was a community event celebrating the strength, creativity and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. The event included skateboarding demonstrations, hands-on workshops including a paint-your-own skateboard session, performances, and opportunities for young people to connect with local services and community organisations.

Cultural Connections: Youth Leadership & Future Pathways Forum

This youth-led community leadership and engagement forum empowered culturally diverse, migrant and newly arrived young people in Logan to build leadership confidence, strengthen community connection, and access practical education, training and employment pathways. The event included cultural performances, storytelling, leadership roundtables, and access to local training providers.

Expressions of Youth - Creative Activations and Community Artwork

This mobile, drop-in creative activity was facilitated by a local artist, culminating in a collaborative artwork designed to amplify the creative voices of children and young people engaged with Gold Coast Health services, including the Gold Coast University Hospital Paediatric Ward and Child and Youth Mental Health Services.

From Awareness to Action: Youth Leading Change

Young people engaged in a one-day workshop run by Maleny High Interact Club to investigate housing insecurity and community responsibility. Participants then designed engaging, youth-created display materials, and communicated these insights to the wider community at the Maleny Agricultural Show.

Future Ready

Two immersive, facilitated life skills simulations were held to assist young people to strengthen their financial literacy, decision-making capability, resilience, and leadership capacity, followed by a collaborative session between mentors and peers.

Jazz for All

Jazz For All was a three-day jazz workshop for young female-identifying, non-binary, and LGBTQIA+ musicians, providing an inclusive space to learn jazz. Participants worked with professional Brisbane-based jazz musicians, who identify as female, non-binary, and/or LGBTQIA+, to develop fundamental jazz performance skills, culminating in a performance with their mentors on the final day.

Kalwun Youth Week 2026

Three days of events were offered to local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, providing them with the tools and opportunities to thrive and connect.  Activities incorporated the development of leadership skills, skateboarding workshops, “university student for a day”, and a First Nations cultural immersion.

Loud Minds, Strong Hearts

This interactive event was designed for neurodiverse and marginalised young people, aiming to ensure young people were genuinely heard when it comes to mental health. The event included a Youth Voice Feedback Hub, Move for Your Mood, facilitated youth discussion circles and creative activities.

South East Qld (Redlands)

Skate Concepts - Queensland Youth Week Activation 2026

Skate Concepts was a skateboarding and multi-sport activation designed to create a safe, beginner-friendly entry point into skate culture. Four structured skateboarding coaching programs were held, with a strong focus on first-time skaters and those who may feel intimidated by traditional skate competitions. Events also included basketball, pickleball and music.

Supporting Young Minds: Positive Pathways Through Family Change

This youth-led event placed a particular focus on family separation and domestic violence. Participants explored mental wellbeing, shared experiences and connected with peers who understood similar challenges, learnt practical tools and accessed support services such as Kids Helpline to help them navigate family changes.

Thrive Moreton Bay

This free event brought together young people, families, and local organisations through shared cultural, creative, and social activities in a safe, inclusive environment. Activities included amusement rides and inflatables, a collaborative graffiti mural led by a professional artist, a youth showcase stage featuring rap, singing, comedy and poetry, cultural performances, an art and photography competition, interactive stalls, and opportunities to connect with local youth support services.

Unity Beats: Multicultural Youth Music Festival

This multicultural music festival showcased emerging young performers from a range of cultural backgrounds, and included live music, dance, spoken word, and collaborative performances. Multicultural youth performances included contemporary, traditional, and fusion genres, providing a platform for emerging young artists to share their creative voices.

Youth Shine

This one-day festival featured interactive stations designed to spark creativity, build connections, and foster a strong sense of community. The festival included food vendors, First Nations art, sports, haircuts, wildlife, music, and vendors providing advice for job seekers.

Youth Voices & Futures Festival – Celebrating Multicultural Young People in Ipswich LGA

The Youth Voices & Futures Festival – Celebrating Multicultural Young People in Ipswich LGA focussed particularly on young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, celebrated their identity, showcased their talents, and enabled them to explore future education and employment pathways.

Central West Youth Fit Camp

Central West Youth Fit Camp was a youth-led, hands-on fitness and wellbeing program that was delivered at the Barcaldine Fitness Centre. The camp brought a qualified strength and conditioning coach from Brisbane to support local young people to learn safe gym technique and basic strength training foundations, nutrition basics, and injury prevention.

Empower Youth Week Activities – Strong Minds, Strong Bodies and Safe Choices

Two events were hosted by Toowoomba PCYC: a 3x3 basketball competition, and an op shop/thrift store themed disco, where young people were encouraged to source their best op shop chic outfit to wear to the event.

Grounded & Growing: Youth Week on the Land

Grounded & Growing: Youth Week on the Land was a youth-led, four-day experiential event series delivered by young people involved in Outback Instincts programs, giving young people the opportunity to try hands-on rural activities and explore agriculture, animals and land-based skills.

Bundaberg Youth Week Live: A Performance & Activity Showcase

This four-hour community event held at Riverfeast Bundaberg celebrated local youth talent while actively promoting mental health, resilience, and early intervention. The event included a performance showcase and the official launch of the Brave Brothers Suicide Prevention initiative, as well as activities and stall run by local support services and community groups.

Connected Youth Cafes

Connected Youth Cafés provided welcoming and energising spaces in two locations just for young people, where they engaged in real conversations with local service providers and wellbeing experts, took part in fun, interactive activities, and enjoyed relaxed café vibes.

SBYC Youth Week Connections and SBYC Community Expo and Talent Show

South Burnett Youth Council hosted a series of events, including movie nights, a community Indigenous art workshop, and a community expo and talent show. The expo included a variety of local activities available to young people, and was attended by representatives from local businesses and programs to provide information on career pathways.
