How to refer children to the Play On! Sports Vouchers

Who you can refer

As a referral agent, you can refer a child or young person who, in your professional option:

  • has a disability, or

If a child has a valid Services Australia Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, they do not need a referral. Their parent, carer or guardian can apply directly when applications are open.

Before you make a referral

Referral agent vouchers are limited each application round, so referrals should only be made for children who have a disability or who need genuine financial assistance to participate in sport.

Before making a referral, make sure the family understands that:

  • if membership, registration or participation fees are more than $200, they will need to pay the remaining balance themselves
  • if eligible fees are less than $200, any unused balance cannot be refunded, transferred or used towards another activity or sport.

Referring family members

You cannot refer an immediate family member.

You may refer a child from your extended family if they meet the eligibility requirements, but you must be able to demonstrate why they should receive support.

Referring children to your own organisation

If you work for, volunteer with or are a member of a registered Play On! activity provider, you cannot refer a child to that organisation.

You can, however:

  • help the parent, carer or guardian apply for a voucher

Supporting families

As a referral agent, you can:

  • help families
  • set up an account and apply for a voucher
  • provide access to a computer or device
  • submit an application on their behalf, where appropriate.
