• board members
• committee members
• executive officers
• trustees
• presidents
• secretaries
• treasurers.

When you need a blue card

You need a blue card if you are an executive officer or member of the board or committee of an organisation that provides services or activities for children that is covered by the blue card system.

This includes executive officers who live outside Queensland.

An executive officer who lives outside Australia does not need a blue card.

Examples

You need a blue card if you are:

• a board member of a childcare service
• a director of a counselling service for children
• a committee member of an organisation that supports children with disability
• a trustee of an organisation that runs activities mainly for children
• a president of an organisation that provides services to children.

When you do not need a blue card

You do not need a blue card if you are:

• a board member of an organisation that only helps adults
• a committee member of a seniors' group
• a director of a business that does not provide services or activities to children covered by the blue card system.

Churches, clubs and groups

Some people who run churches, clubs and other groups may need a blue card.

This can apply when the executive committee make decisions about services or activities for children.

Your role as a business operator

Most executive officers and board or committee members are business operators.

This depends on the services their organisation provides.

Business operators have specific obligations under the blue card system.

If your organisation provides more than one service

Your organisation may provide more than one service for children.

You may need to be listed as a business operator for each service.

For example, an organisation may provide:

• licensed care services
• education and care services
• health or counselling services
• support services.

When you apply for a blue card, select all the types of services your organisation provides.

Linking your blue card to a governing body

Some executive officers and board or committee members are automatically linked to a governing regulatory body.

For example:

• licensed care service link to Child Safety
• education and care service link to Early Childhood Education and Care
• non-state school link to the non-state school accreditation board.

If your blue card is suspended or cancelled, the governing body may be told.

This helps them take action if needed.

Giving your blue card details to your organisation

After your blue card has been issued, you must give the details to your organisation.

The organisation must add these details to its employee register.
