Whilst the focus is upon the potential transplant recipient, family members and other support people are valued and appreciated for the care and support they provide. Carers and supporters play a vital role.
Managing hospital appointments, employment, family and other commitments whilst maintaining one’s own good health and well-being, can be challenging but is very important.
Tips for success
- Fresh or frozen vegetables for ease and nutrition
- Drink plenty of water.
- Regular sleep and regular exercise.
- Load books, podcasts, music and movies onto your tablet or smart phone.
- Focus on a hobby or interest—online, community or home based.
- Keep in contact with friends and family.
- Take set and regular time out. Do not skimp on this.
- Take a few slow, deep breaths every so often.
- Share the care responsibilities wherever possible.
- Be proud about how well you managed previous challenging situations. Consider what worked in the past and tap into those strengths again.
- Seek counselling, support and information.
