Looking after yourself at home

Ways to get support

Practical support

Involve your family and friends. They can provide a network of help for emergencies, babysitting, social activities and ‘time out’ for you.

Personal support

These are people you can talk to about how you are feeling. They may include family, friends and health professionals.

Ways to take care of yourself

  • sleep when your baby is sleeping
  • limit outside activities and visitors
  • drink lots of water and eat healthy foods
  • try to get exercise and fresh air every day
  • join a breastfeeding or new mothers support group
  • talk about your feelings with your partner or others
  • let family and friends help with chores.
