Queensland Climate Adaptation Strategy
The Queensland Climate Adaptation Strategy (Q-CAS) provides a framework for ensuring an innovative and resilient Queensland that manages the risks and harnesses the opportunities of a changing climate.
The Q-CAS is centred around a partnership approach that recognises that climate change is everyone’s responsibility, and that a collaborative approach is needed to ensure resilience is embedded in Queensland’s diverse economies, landscapes and communities.
The Q-CAS includes four pathways to action:
People and knowledge
Empower best-practice climate science, education and engagement to support climate risk management within Queensland’s communities.
State Government
Embed the consideration of climate adaptation into policies, regulations and procedures, and address risks to assets and services.
Local governments and regions
Partner with local governments and other regional organisations to develop regional adaptation solutions, including embedding climate risk in planning and development decisions.
The Queensland Government is partnering with the Local Government Association of Queensland to support Queensland local councils manage their climate risk through the Queensland Climate Resilient Councils (Q-CRC) and QCoast2100 programs.
Sectors and systems
Assist sector leaders to collaborate with government agencies, local governments and other stakeholders to identify adaptation needs and to prioritise adaptation activities.
Find out more about how the government is supporting the development of industry-led Sector Adaptation Plans that describe risks, opportunities and priority adaptation activities.
Q-CAS Partners Group
The Q-CAS Partners Group, which includes representatives from industry, community and research sectors, were also instrumental in the development of the Queensland Climate Adaptation Strategy and will continue to provide a leading role in its implementation.
