Information for not-for-profit organisations

All Queensland not-for-profit organisations, including charities and community groups, must not supply banned single-use plastic items once the ban begins, unless they are an exempt business.

Suppliers, distributors and wholesalers of banned items may continue to supply them to a not-for-profit organisation if they have a reasonable belief that they are an exempt business.

More information on how the ban will be enforced.

What you can do now

You are encouraged to identify whether banned items still need to be provided to the people you support, and if so, what they can be replaced with. If you have excess stock, you may also wish to contact your supplier to understand their returns policy.

The National Retail Association and Boomerang Alliance have been engaged to work with businesses and not-for-profit organisations to ensure they understand the ban and what they must do to comply, as well as options to manage excess stock.

Visit the Queensland Plastics Ban website for more information or call their Hotline on 1800 844 946.
