Description

This unit of competency involves the skills and knowledge required to administer restricted analgesics to provide pain management as part of a medically supervised first responder organisation. It includes identifying the need for analgesia; accessing, preparing and administering restricted pain relief such as analgesics according to medically endorsed protocols; performing casualty handovers and completing analgesic use requirements.

It is suitable for personnel from emergency services, volunteer organisations or organisations that provide a medically supervised first aid service.

Private and corporate training

Student requirements

No prior learning is required.

Physical ability

Students must perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

Recommended renewal period

In accordance with the Code of Practice – First aid in the workplace, training in CPR (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) should be carried out annually (every 12 months).
