Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

It is suitable for all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Course content

  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • Perform CPR procedures, including how to use and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • Evaluate the incident and own performance.

Private and corporate training

This course can be delivered privately, allowing you and your staff or community group to undertake first aid training at your own workplace or venue. Request a quote for a booking or email firstaidtraining@ambulance.qld.gov.au.

Course duration

This course generally runs for 3 hours. Sometimes we may run over time in order to meet the needs of the students such as:

  • participant numbers
  • prior skills and knowledge
  • industry experience
  • language, literacy and numeracy skills.

If we believe the course will run over time, the trainer and assessor will let you know as soon as possible.

Student requirements

No prior learning is required.

Physical ability

Students must perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

Recommended renewal period

In accordance with the Code of Practice – First aid in the workplace (Opens in new window) , training in CPR (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) should be carried out annually (every 12 months).
