Cost of living summit delivers on commitments
On 20 March 2023, the Queensland Government and local leaders convened for the Torres Strait Islands and Northern Peninsula Area Cost of Living Summit on Thursday Island.
Cost of living pressures are being felt across Queensland, and it is recognised that these pressures are even more deeply felt in remote and regional areas of our state, including in the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area.
The Government is taking action through new initiatives intended to support the Torres Strait Islands, Cape York, Gulf, and Northern Peninsula Area communities to navigate these challenges.
The government is delivering on commitments across areas including:
- Marine and transport infrastructure
- Freight services
- Energy
- Housing
- Food security
