Public transport

Planning your trip

The key to using public transport is to plan your trip before you leave. The TransLink journey planner will show you which bus, ferry or train to take from your starting point to your destination.

If you live in regional, rural or remote Queensland, visit qconnect to plan your trip. Here you can find bus and ferry timetables and other transport information.

A Seniors Card+go is the easiest way to pay for public transport. It combines the discount of a Seniors Card with the convenience of the TransLink go card into 1 card.

Apply for a Seniors Card+go.

Read the TransLink Public Transport for Seniors Guide for more information on:

  • using your go card
  • how to top up your go card
  • transferring between services
  • safety and security
  • wheelchair and mobility aids
  • handy hints for a stress-free journey.

You can also visit the Transport Information Centre at King George Square station for a free personal journey planning session that can show you the best way to travel to and from your home using public transport.

TravelSmart can show you how to combine public transport with cycling, walking and even car pooling to improve your health and decrease the number of cars we have on our roads. On their site, you can also find handy tips about public transport safety.

Travelling at night

NightLink buses and trains are a safe, affordable and convenient way to travel in Brisbane or the Gold Coast late at night. Services operate on a number of routes with the Brisbane CityGlider (operating between West End and Teneriffe) and the Gold Coast 700 service (between Australia Fair and the Tweed Mall) running 24 hours a day.

NightLink bus drivers will also drop you off anywhere along the bus route (not just at designated bus stops) providing it is safe for the bus to stop.
