Support services

You can get career advice and help with your resume if you are aged 45 or over—phone 13 17 64.

Job Services Australia can develop an individual program to help you find and keep a job. You may have to meet eligibility requirements.

Some private employment agencies specialise in finding jobs for mature-age workers. Try an online search or a phone directory.

Financial support

The Australian Government’s Department of Human Services offers job search facilities as well as financial help for people who want to continue working past pension age.

Help for employers—Investing in Experience

Investing in Experience (Skills Recognition and Training) is an Australian Government initiative for employers who wish to help mature age workers turn their experience into recognised qualifications.

Flexible working arrangements

Flexible work arrangements can include:

  • reducing your workload over time through gradual retirement
  • using your long service leave to reduce your working week to a 4-day week.

It is always worth discussing the options with your employer, or asking about flexible arrangements when you take a new job.
