Health and safety
Many resources, research and training programs are available for students, teachers, health professionals and parents to help Queensland schools offer a safe and healthy environment for all students.
Health processes and procedures
There are a few key health and safety procedures for schools.
Some of the areas schools manage day to day include:
- allergies and reactions
- infectious or communicable diseases or conditions (e.g. head lice)
- medications at school.

School-based Youth Health Nurse Program
This program gives high school students access to nurses who work in state schools.
Their responsibilities include:
- promoting health
- supporting the development of a healthy environment
- providing advice and information and promoting health education resources
- providing individual health consultations.

Healthy eating and physical exercise
Smart Choices is designed to help schools provide healthy food and limit unhealthy food. All school tuckshops follow the healthy eating guidelines. You may find the nutrition information helpful for your family.
Smart Moves aims to increase student participation in physical activity and promote wellbeing.
