Community groups
Community groups help people get together for a common purpose or to share an interest. The group may provide support for group members, or for others in their local community. There are all kinds of community groups in Queensland, including multicultural, sport and recreation, arts and crafts, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and many more.

Children’s playgroups
Playgroups help parents, grandparents, caregivers and children come together to learn, play and interact in a safe environment. Many playgroups operate under the guidelines of the Playgroup Association of Queensland.
All playgroups are different, but share common features including:
- children being aged from birth to school age
- children's play being guided and supported by parents, grandparents and caregivers
- sessions aiming to provide a stimulating learning environment with a variety of early learning experiences
- groups meeting once a week at venues such as community and neighbourhood centres, church halls, kindergartens or people's homes
- group members giving small donations, if required, to support the running of the group.
Some playgroups may include families with similar circumstances, including those:
- with a culturally and linguistically diverse background
- that are Indigenous
- with mental health or disability issues (either the parent or child)
- with teenage parents
- who are socially isolated, vulnerable or disadvantaged
- where grandparents are carers of children.
