Crash history data selects camera locations

Camera sites are selected from locations that have a history of speed or red light related crashes. Locations are ranked according to the number and severity of crashes within a 5 year period, using the most recent data available at the time of selection.

A strong emphasis is placed on identifying locations that have a history of serious crashes with fatalities and hospitalised casualties given higher priority. The Queensland Police Service also assesses potential camera locations according to health and safety risks for its officers and operating and technical requirements.

The following table highlights the number of crashes, the severity of the crashes and social costs of each type of camera.
