Duration 00:02:18

0:00:05.900-->0:00:06.964
The North Brisbane Bikeway

0:00:06.964-->0:00:08.028
is ideal for everyone.

0:00:08.030-->0:00:09.910
It consists of seven and a half kilometres

0:00:09.910-->0:00:11.311
of continuous off-road cycling facility,

0:00:11.311-->0:00:13.075
including four and a half kilometres

0:00:13.080-->0:00:15.400
separated between pedestrians and cyclists.

0:00:15.400-->0:00:16.940
It's been specifically designed to

0:00:16.940-->0:00:19.860
suit people of all ages and abilities.

0:00:19.860-->0:00:21.980
Gives you a direct link into the city,

0:00:21.980-->0:00:22.540
so if you're a commuter and

0:00:22.540-->0:00:23.920
want to ride your bike-->

0:00:23.920-->0:00:24.712
your e-bike or a scooter

0:00:24.712-->0:00:26.940
all the way to the city--> you can do that.

0:00:27.950-->0:00:29.636
It's also great for people on weekends.

0:00:29.640-->0:00:31.992
Just going for a family roll together on

0:00:31.992-->0:00:34.686
the bike or on the scooter and so forth.

0:00:34.690-->0:00:36.657
Can take you into the Roma Street Parklands.

0:00:36.660-->0:00:38.346
Great for the kids and family

0:00:38.346-->0:00:39.470
to get out there.

0:00:39.470-->0:00:41.156
Yeah--> that's one of the things

0:00:41.156-->0:00:42.280
that's really struck me.

0:00:42.280-->0:00:43.690
People that haven't been on it

0:00:43.690-->0:00:45.205
probably don't realise just what

0:00:45.205-->0:00:47.285
a pleasant ride it is and there's

0:00:47.285-->0:00:49.301
parks you can stop at on the way.

0:00:49.310-->0:00:51.446
It's actually--> for the fact that it runs

0:00:51.446-->0:00:53.519
through a fairly built-up urban area,

0:00:53.520-->0:00:55.578
there's actually lovely green parts of it

0:00:55.578-->0:00:57.967
along the way. It's such a family-friendly

0:00:57.970-->0:01:00.336
environment. My husband also commutes on it.

0:01:00.340-->0:01:02.030
So we've got the kids,

0:01:02.030-->0:01:02.718
we've got

0:01:02.718-->0:01:04.782
commuting. It joins a number of other

0:01:04.782-->0:01:06.758
projects we've got around the state,

0:01:06.760-->0:01:08.884
including the Veloway 1 and the

0:01:08.884-->0:01:10.667
Bicentennial Bikeway that are all

0:01:10.667-->0:01:12.491
designed to get more people riding

0:01:12.491-->0:01:14.528
and more people walking more often

0:01:14.530-->0:01:16.270
throughout Queensland. Raised priority

0:01:16.270-->0:01:18.445
crossings were installed at several

0:01:18.445-->0:01:19.912
intersections to make the bikeway

0:01:19.912-->0:01:21.370
a safe and accessible for as

0:01:21.423-->0:01:22.639
many people as possible,

0:01:22.640-->0:01:24.300
including our most vulnerable road

0:01:24.300-->0:01:25.960
users like people walking with

0:01:26.020-->0:01:27.710
prams or using mobility devices.

0:01:27.710-->0:01:28.324
They're great.

0:01:28.324-->0:01:30.473
The cars stop for you, they're quite

0:01:30.473-->0:01:31.919
comfortable riding across,

0:01:31.920-->0:01:33.480
they've made a difference the

0:01:33.480-->0:01:34.416
whole way along.

0:01:34.420-->0:01:36.160
Super safe with the division

0:01:36.160-->0:01:38.045
between you know the walking and

0:01:38.045-->0:01:39.715
the cycling. It segregates

0:01:39.720-->0:01:41.280
obviously the speed groups,

0:01:41.280-->0:01:42.840
which is really important when

0:01:42.840-->0:01:44.400
you're walking with little kids.

0:01:44.400-->0:01:45.336
People feel safer,

0:01:45.336-->0:01:47.208
they feel more confident in riding.

0:01:47.210-->0:01:49.802
Whereas in the past they might not have

0:01:49.802-->0:01:51.561
considered riding along Dickson Street or

0:01:51.561-->0:01:53.760
Bridge Street because it was too dangerous,

0:01:53.760-->0:01:55.704
they now feel completely safe and

0:01:55.704-->0:01:57.977
the fact they can get all the

0:01:57.977-->0:01:59.487
way into the city without,

0:01:59.490-->0:01:59.826
essentially,

0:01:59.826-->0:02:01.842
without riding on any roads is

0:02:01.842-->0:02:03.167
really encouraging for people

0:02:03.167-->0:02:04.739
to take up cycling. Over time,

0:02:04.740-->0:02:05.976
the network will progressively

0:02:05.976-->0:02:07.830
get built as roads are upgraded.

0:02:07.830-->0:02:10.287
We'll see more and more of this kind of

0:02:10.287-->0:02:12.158
facility roll out across the network.
