Field of Play

The $30 million Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program is helping local Queensland organisations upgrade sporting facilities, get more people active, and build a lasting community legacy ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, through the Field of Play program for community-level projects and the Partnership Fund for larger, multi-use developments.

Funding available

The Field of Play category funds smaller, community-level infrastructure projects like shade structures, LED lights, and the upgrading of existing facilities to help more people get involved in sport.

The following funding is available:

  • Projects located within urban and regional LGAs: $50,000 – $499,999
  • Projects located within remote and very remote LGAs*: $50,000 - $739,999
  • Projects located within discrete communities: $50,000 - $829,999

Applicants are expected to make a co-contribution, with an indicative guide below.

  • Projects located within urban and regional LGAs: 20% of eligible project costs
  • Projects located within remote and very remote LGAs*: 10% of eligible project costs
  • Projects located within discrete communities: Nil

The maximum total project cost for projects are:

  • Projects located within urban and regional LGAs: $1 million
  • Projects located within discrete communities*: $1.66 million
  • Projects located within remote and very remote LGAs*: $1.48 million

* Only shortlisted eligible applicants will be invited to submit a complete application.

** Construction of approved projects cannot commence until all grant agreement pre-construction requirements are compliant to the department's satisfaction.

How to apply

All applicants must complete a two-stage application process.

Registrations of Interest have now closed. Only applicants who submitted an ROI will be considered for stage two of the application process.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a full application, which will require:

  • detailed project designs
  • approvals and landowner consent
  • evidence of secured co-contributions
  • final project budget and cost estimates
  • project management and delivery plans.
