Outreach program

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) aims to deliver a high standard of customer service to the whole of Queensland. Our outreach program takes our message into rural and regional parts of the state.

Since 2010, we have made more than 240 visits to about 160 towns to:

  • give information sessions to schools, community groups and service organisations
  • visit local businesses to give information and advice
  • meet with organisations and service providers to discuss any issues within the local area
  • undertake compliance checks on local businesses and licensees we regulate
  • receive consumer complaints.

During the visits, officers engage with retail businesses in each area, calling in to provide information and advice.

The officers meet with community groups and schools, discussing general consumer rights and responsibilities, such as refunds, consumer guarantees, online shopping, scams, lay-bys and unsolicited consumer agreements. Complaints are also accepted.

A Fair Trading inspector forms a part of the team conducting these visits, undertaking compliance checks of industries regulated by the OFT.
